Reliance Jio GigaFiber broadband internet service might be priced at Rs 500

Reliance Jio GigaFiber broadband internet service might be priced at Rs 500

Reliance Industries' chairman Mukesh Ambani at its 41st annual general meeting had announced the launch of the fixed-line broadband service Jio GigaFiber. The registrations for Reliance Jio GigaFiber broadband will start from August 15.
During his address, Chairman Mukesh Ambani informed that Jio's broadband services would be made available in 1,100 cities in India. Jio GigaFiber will come with a GigaFiber router along with the Jio GigaTV set-top box. Mukesh Ambani also informed that the set-top box will allow users to make video calls to other GigaTV devices or mobile connections on any network in the country.
According to a report by The Economic Times, the company is looking at a commercial launch of Jio GigaFiber before Diwali, November 7. Initially, it will be rolled out in metro cities and about 80 top tier 1 and 2 markets in the country. In terms of pricing, the service might be available for a starting price of Rs 500.
A person familiar with the plan mentioned that the availability of the service will depend on the volume of consumer registrations, starting August 15. The report also pointed out that Jio may deploy IP multicasting technology to offer internet-based TV services so that home broadband customers do notuse up their data for television. Without this technology, the company would end up providing 500GB to 600GB of data per month, per household for the TV services. Eventually, the IP multicasting technology will bring down the pricing of GigaFiber, which is expected to be Rs 500.
As we mentioned above, the registration will start on August 15. Customers will be able to register for the Jio GigaFiber broadband service through the MyJio app. They can also login to Jio.com, to register it online. It should also be noted that there will be no registration amount for a Jio GigaFiber connection.
Listing out the benefits of Jio GigaFiber, Mukesh Ambani said that for the merchants and small businesses, fixed-line broadband will enable fixed-line connectivity with the agility and customer obsession of a small owner-driven business you empower them to compete on level terms with larger businesses.

Explained Snippets: Of every seven Indian universities, one is tech, twice as many as medical

The 126 technical universities, out of 882 overall, are second only to the 500 that are listed as “general” in the All India Survey on Higher Education 2017-18 released by the Ministry of HRD.

ONE IN every seven universities in India is a technical one, the single highest count for any kind of specialised universities. The 126 technical universities, out of 882 overall, are second only to the 500 that are listed as “general” in the All India Survey on Higher Education 2017-18 released by the Ministry of HRD. As highlighted in a series in The Indian Express in December, the mushrooming of engineering courses — 3,291 colleges not counting the IITs — has led to a devaluation of the BE/BTech degree, with poor infrastructure, low placement and other factors contributing to half the 15 lakh seats remaining vacant. At the IIT Bombay convocation Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi noted that 7 lakh engineers graduate in India every year, while calling for improvement in the quality of technical education. In general, larger states such as UP (10), Maharashtra (7) and Karnataka (7), along with Delhi (7) have a higher number of technical universities. Next to engineering, medical universities account for the highest count for specialised universities, at 58, followed by agriculture universities at 52.
